Most recently Sällström has been responsible for setting up a strategic research and innovation agenda for a sustainable habitat sponsored by the Swedish government agency for innovation systems (Vinnova) advicing the government on research policies in the field of architecture and urban development for the new government research funding program 2017-2027. He is on the advisory board of the research program DECODE at KTH working on methodological development for sustainable urban development with 12 municipalities in Sweden, the Sweden Green Building Council and the Stockholm School of Economics. He is also on the reference group for the housing innovation program Elastiska hem sponsored by Vinnova.
His actions include setting up a platform for community development in suburbs of Stockholm and the Örby Demo, the total undertaking of sustainable refurbishment and extension of a private villa, a demo for CLT in Beijing Yanqing district, a conceptual urban plan and architectural design for an international campus at Shanghai Jiaotong Technical University (together with AIX), the master plan for sustainable development of the Xiangquan recreation resort at Hexian northwest of Nanjing and strategic advice on sustainable planning projects in Chengde, Tangshan, E’erguna, Tianjin and Shenyang.
Sällström has worked for the Swedish Association of Architects for 22 years. He has a wide experience as a policy professional managing architecture and planning award schemes, continued professional development programs for architects within business development and administration, policy development in education, research and innovation for sustainable architecture and urban development. He has managed various events promoting Swedish architect’s services domestic as well as international. He taught Chinese architectural history at KTH 1998-2012 and has been involved in teaching exchanges between Southeast university, Qinghua university, Royal institute of technology in Stockholm (KTH) and Lund university.
Sällström was the Head of the Scandinavian delegation to UIA Beijing in 1999, head of the Swedish architecture delegation to the World Urban Forum 2008 in Nanjing as well as moderator at the Symbio City Forum and the general manager of the Sino-Swedish Architecture Week during the Shanghai Expo in 2010. He was responsible for setting up a platform for export of Swedish Architect’s services in cooperation with the government’s Delegation for sustainable cities in 2008-2012. He acted as the China manager of AIX architects in 2012-2014 when he set up a framework for cooperation on low carbon housing development research and innovation between Shanghai Jiaotong university and KTH.
